Peru workshop itinerary
10 day Peru photography workshop
Day 1: Arrival in Cusco
You will be picked up in the airport, and driven to our hotel. First day is a very calm one as we will have to adjust our bodies to the altitude. Cusco lays in an altitude of 3390 meters, so it is important that we are properly adjusted, before we start our adventures. When everyone has arrived we will have a short introduction about the tour, so you are familiar with the program. We will have a city walk in the afternoon, where we will be taking things very slowly.
Day 2: Street photography and local market
We will be walking around the city, looking for unique street photography. Cusco is an extremely beautiful city, so photographing it will be a treat. We are looking for unique angles and interesting people. Afterwards we will be going to the San Pedro market, where we are sure to capture some interesting portraits. For sunset we will be heading to Mirador de San Blas, where we have a unique view of the city.
Day 3: Welcome to the Andes
Day 3 marks the beginning of our day trips into the mountains. We will be picked up by our driver around 1-2 am before embarking on a drive to the Palccoyo rainbow mountain. This region is a newly discovered mountain that is just stunning to see in person. We aim to be there around sunrise so we have the best light to photograph the beautiful surroundings. It shouldn’t take us longer than an hour to reach the top, but we will be hiking in an altitude of 4900 meters, so we will be taking it slow. On the way back down we will stop in a few of the local villages to explore, and find some local cuisine.
Day 4: Further into the Andes
On day 4 we will once again be picked up very early. We have a 3-4 hour drive, continued by a 1-2 hour hike, again at altitude. Today we will be visiting a spot that very few people visit. Pallay Punchu is still yet to be discovered by the majority of tourists, meaning that we can capture some unique photos of the beautiful colors and shapes of the stunning rainbow mountain. On the way home we get to explore additional villages and find more unique cuisine along the way.
Day 5: The Rainbow mountain
Today we will visit the famous rainbow mountain, and as such, will have an early start to the day once again. We aim to be here as early as possible in order to soak it all in. It is a stunning site, and located in equally beautiful surroundings.
As we leave, instead of going back to Cusco, we will be going to the train station, where we will jump on the train to Aguas Calientes.
Day 6: Experiencing a wonder of the world
Machu Picchu. We will rise early in order to see the sunrise at Machu Picchu. We aim to be among the first people inside of the premises, so instead of waiting for the bus, we will climb the steps up there. We will walk around inside with our guide, and marvel at this incredible wonder of the world. Our guide will help us with the best photo spots there, and tell us about the history of Machu Picchu.
Once our tour has come to an end, we will head back to Cusco and finally relax for a bit.
Day 7: Towards the jungle
Today we will leave Cusco in the morning and head to Iquitos, the gateway to the Amazon. We will head to Cusco airport in the morning, from where we will fly to Iquitos, via Lima. We will arrive in the afternoon, and have some time to finally look at our photos, and have an editing session.
Day 8 -10: The Amazon
On day 8 we will begin our adventure into the Amazon. This happens by sailing the Amazon river to our accommodations. During the next three days, we will launch expeditions out into the river and surrounding jungles looking for wildlife, exotic birds, meeting locals, and even fishing for piranhas! Each night there’s an opportunity to explore the Amazon at dark, exploring the same routes natives have traveled through the jungles for centuries. Canoes are a common way to explore, so get ready to experience an authentic adventure!
As our Amazon trips comes to an end, we will be heading to the airport and fly back to Cusco, where we will have our late farewell dinner.
What’s not included?
Flights to Peru and insurance
Food (Except for during the treks)
Visa if necessary, though we will help with the process
Snacks and alcoholic beverages
Your mentors:
Niclas Glud
You can find me in rural villages in India searching for the best light. In the Chinese countryside photographing the locals and rice terraces. Or about to hike a mountain or volcano in South America or South East Asia in order to create something special.
As I finished my trip around Ecuador in 2013, I figured that I had found a new love. Not only the love for travel, but also of capturing beautiful moments and tell stories through photos.
Not long after I started studying photography on my own, and devoted every free hour to do so.
I slowly developed my style, and after a few years I started getting jobs from hotels, travel companies, product brands and car rentals.
I have worked with companies such as Visit Karakol, Lava car rental, Walking with nomads, Madeira Round Trip, Killa Expeditions, Trendhim, Ditur, Quintana Sao Joao as well as various tourism boards around the world.
This tour has been created in order to allow you to photograph each destination, at the best possible time. I will ensure that you are at the right place, at the right time. Furthermore I will assist you in any way possible, hold talks regarding composition and light, but also about post processing in order to share my knowledge.
